Sonogram Machine
How do Sonogram machines work?
Sonogram or Ultrasound machines use high frequency sound waves which are transmitted and received back by a wand-like instrument called a transducer that acts like a loudspeaker as well as a microphone as it sends and received sound waves. These sound waves are targeted at the body part to be examined. With the sound waves that come back to the transducer, images are produced which are captured using a computer and reflected on its monitor.
Who operates Sonogram Machines?
A Sonogram technician (also known as a “Sonographer” or an “Ultrasound technician”) saves the images thus captured after analyzing them and sends the recorded images to a certified doctor who performs the final diagnosis using the information gathered by the procedure.

What are the benefits of Sonogram machine?
This diagnostic procedure is widely utilized these days as it has emerged as a preferred method of diagnosis by doctors and patients alike due to being low-risk, non-invasive, painless and not very difficult to afford. Another point that goes in its favor is the clarity of the results produced using sonogram machines.
Technological developments have not left the field of Sonography unaffected. The results obtained from sonogram machines have gone from being two-dimensional to three-dimensional to four-dimensional. Color Doppler Sonograms have made the movement of blood flow also detectable and this has proved quite useful in diagnosing several types of disorders in the human body.
As mentioned earlier, the Sonogram procedure is completely safe and comfortable and the patient gets back to his or her regular routine right after the examination is complete. It is a better alternative to x-rays that utilize harmful radiation and also a better alternative to mammography which is used to detect breast cancer in women as mammography can be quite painful as well as uncomfortable. But this procedure is not without its limitations. It does not produce very clear results when dealing with bones or gas-filled organs. Also over-use or long duration usage on pregnant women can cause damage to the fetus so one has to be careful while using it with pregnant women.
Another good thing about Sonogram machines is that they are relatively less expensive than CAT scan machinery or MRI equipment. While choosing a Sonogram machine, one needs to check three things that are most important: the quality of the transducer, the quality of the image the machine provides and how effectively the real-time scanner works.
When are Sonogram machines used?
Sonography and Sonogram machines are utilized most commonly in monitoring fetal development and well-being during pregnancy and in Echocardiography to detect artery blockage and determine cardiovascular health. Besides these, this diagnostic method also helps in detecting tumors and blood clots.
What are the parts of the Sonogram machine?
Some of the parts of the Sonogram machine are a central processing unit (CPU) since it uses a computer, a printer that prints the images and results captured during the procedure, a transducer that is used to send and receive sound waves to the patient’s body part to be examined, a display screen or a monitor that shows the results real-time and pulse controls using which the Sonogram technician can control the duration as well as the frequency of the sound waves.
